Bishop's Award: India Shiroma Perreira

The Bishop’s Award goes to the senior who has given unselfish service to church, school, and community and who demonstrates outstanding witness to faith in Christ and commitment to principle.

Escorting this year’s winner is an advisor who has worked with her closely in the Contemporary Asian American Issues Seminar. Mr. Khactu, please bring to the stage India Shiroma Perreira.

India is a four-year member of our Chapel Council, where she has helped plan chapel services in addition to serving as an acolyte. For the last three years she’s led our Bible Study club while also engaging in the study of issues impacting diverse communities through the Shanti Alliance. She’s been active in our Office of Community and Civic Engagement, while also managing to serve as a Writing Center tutor. She’ll be a most welcome addition to the University of San Diego this fall.

"It is truly an honor to have received this award," said India. "My deepest gratitude goes to everyone who has guided me in my walk with faith. Mahalo nui loa!"

Congratulations, India!

Bishop's Award: Emali Malohi

Emali Malohi received the Bishop’s Award from Bishop Fitzpatrick at the Baccalaureate service of St. Andrew’s Priory School, on Sunday, May 28, 2023.

The award citation reads:

“Emali lives her faith daily; it makes up who she is as a person and is embedded in her beliefs and actions. Authentic in her motivations, a deep thinker about values, relationships, faith, and witness and how these intertwine. Ema is gracious and kind to everyone; she radiates thoughtfulness, respect, and appreciation in her daily actions and interactions, and she demonstrates these same qualities in the way she approaches others' cultures, customs, traditions, and religions with an open mind.

Emali’s faith guides her. As she so beautifully expressed in her hula as our May Day Queen this year, music is a cherished gift that allows her to express her faith. Emali’s strength and grace are rooted in her faith and the love she feels from her family and community. When she dances, she thinks of her love for her family, and it is the deep connection she has through her faith that nourishes this love. She has a sincere desire to give back to the community that raised her and aspires to truly make a difference in the world.”

Bishop's Award: Mansa Devaki

At Seabury Hall, there’s a student who models exemplary thoughtfulness and an unwavering commitment to changing the world.

This student works hard to take care of the Seabury Hall, Maui, and global communities with their work in student council, in representing Seabury Hall at events, their hours spent tutoring, and raising funds through Henna club for various causes such as the Iranian Women's Rights Movement.

From organizing a school-wide hands-only CPR training with the American Red Cross, to their own dream of working in medicine some day, wherever this student goes they are sure to make a difference. Their big heart allows them to take in the bitterness of the world and yet never give up on making it a brighter, more caring place.

The 2023 Bishop’s Citizenship Award winner is Mansa Devaki
