Diocesan Youth Ministry Rejuvenated
YOUTH DAY 2019 & OPEN HOUSE AT CAMP MOKULE'IA

By Darrell Whitaker, Executive Director, Camp Mokule'ia
[May 14, 2019] On Saturday, April 27, 2019. the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai‘i  held a diocesan youth ministry event at Camp Mokule'ia  in Waialua.  It has been several years since a diocesan-wide youth event has taken place, and this inaugural Youth Day was attended by nearly three dozen youth, representing five Episcopal churches on O'ahu. It was a beautiful day and a wonderful event to help restart our diocesan youth ministry.

Participants had the opportunity to meet and get to know other Episcopal youth from around the Diocese. The day consisted of games, songs, worship, small groups, swimming, zip lining, paddle boarding, and more!

Easton Davis, the Missioner for Youth & Young Adult Ministry of the Atlanta Diocese, provided wonderful leadership for the event.

This first Youth Day event was a great start towards rebuilding our Diocesan youth ministry and plans for our next event are already in progress.

A “Visioning Retreat” will be held at Camp Mokule‘ia in September to begin developing a sustainable youth ministry model for the Diocese.  If you have a passion for youth ministry in our diocese and would like to participate in this important event, please contact Darrell Whitaker (darrell@campmokuleia.org).

On the following day, Sunday, April 28, Camp Mokule'ia held a Summer Camp Open House. The event was open to the public and was designed to welcome parents and children to Camp to learn more about our summer camp program. The weather was beautiful and sixteen families (representing about 75 people) were in attendance.  It is hoped that Summer Camp Open House will become an annual event at Camp Mokule‘ia.

Parents and campers had the opportunity to meet camp staff, tour the camp, make s’mores, and learn about the summer camp programs and new activities being offered this summer.

There is excitement in the air about the incredible things happening at Camp Mokule'ia, and Summer camp enrollment is already up 67% over last year!

If you have not already registered your child, grandchild, niece, nephew, church member, etc., it is not too late. There are still plenty of spaces available. You may visit www.campmokuleia.org for more information and to register online.
