Bishop's Award: Miley Faith CoxThe Bishop’s Award goes to the senior who has given unselfish service to church, school, and community and who demonstrates outstanding witness to faith in Christ and commitment to principle. This year's recipient is Miley Faith Cox.
Miley joined the 'Iolani community in the ninth grade as a member of our boarding program, having been raised on Kaua'i in a large family. She became broadly involved in the school community, founding clubs (like the Black Culture Club), participating in sports (track and field), and creating art in visual forms and through hula. She is one of eight student leaders in the dorm, but her faith and commitment to spiritual growth is what she is best known for on campus. She's a very active member of our Chapel Council and a morning bible fellowship group. Despite the inherent challenges of being a student in the dorm without her own means of transportation, Miley is also extremely active in her local congregation here on O'ahu. She is a most deserving recipient. Congratulations Miley! |
This award is a symbol of the close relationship between the Bishop, the Church, and St. Andrew’s Schools. It is given to the senior who best exemplifies her religious faith, witness, and values in her life and relationships. This year, the award was given to two deserving young women, Leila Aubuchon and Motu O Salaia Salave'a. The name of the Bishop’s Award winners are engraved on the perpetual plaque that will remain here at The Priory.

Leila Aubuchon (left of the Bishop) exemplifies faithful and faith-driven servant leadership through her generous spirit and willingness to share her time and talents not only within the school community but also with a global reach. Her steadfast faith is lived out through her commitment to Jesus' commandment to love one another, while she takes to heart the Gospel message to shine her light, to step out and lead, so others do not stumble in the darkness. Leila's leadership is characterized by service, generosity, and a clear understanding that her faith calls her to be a guiding light for others, demonstrating love in action and providing clarity and direction for those around her. Leila is committed to building a more just and hopeful world, living her faith in the beautiful way she cares for our school community, her island home, and the people of Micronesia, where she has interned and furthered her family’s deep, faithful commitment to the people there. This has kept her inspired to lead here, keeping us all mindful of the needs of the world and our Gospel-call to love our neighbor. To know Leila is to know God’s love in action.
Motu O Salaia Salave'a (right of the Bishop) embodies faith as the cornerstone of her identity, allowing it to permeate her character, spirit, actions, and words while maintaining an open and questioning heart that seeks continual growth and understanding. Her faith serves as both anchor and compass—providing strength during difficult moments and guiding her moral decisions as she consistently chooses to do what is right. Rather than using her beliefs to create division, Salaia demonstrates the inclusive nature of true faith by bringing others along with her, witnessing through her gentle interactions and active participation in her school community. Salaia lives this calling daily, never wavering from righteousness while humbly acknowledging that mistakes are opportunities for learning and growth. Her devotion is not merely proclaimed through her persistent compassion and kindness, but lived authentically, making her a natural witness to all she encounters through the integrity of her daily, faithful walk. Her impact is that of grace and aloha, and shared with beautiful intention and no hesitation, all for the good of the world. |
